This Branch of the Couch Family
see Couch Family Tree here various couch stuff
It has been said that this branch of the Couch's was formerly Quiller-Couch (made famous by Sir A T Quiller Couch) but I have been unable to substantiate this despite a long hard look. (And the fact that "Quiller" appears on JHL Couch's grave at Woronora Cemetry in Sydney NSW.)
So what is the real story? The first I can vaguely substantiate is a William Couch born in early 1700 from Buckfastleigh in Devon England. Then there was a series of Peters then John David Couch who married Ann Lane. Brixham, Devon was a focal point for the family between mid-1700s to 1820's. Deptford, Kent from the mid 1800s. After this Peter and his brother George William Arthur Couch went to New Zealand (probably 1875-1882) and then Peter's son John Henry Lane Couch came to Australia - and here some of us are still. Check the recent tree. Many stayed in New Zealand and there is a large number of Couchs in NZ descended from these two brothers.
This Family below is John Henry Lane Couch and his wife Clara Lillian Couch nee Feek with their two sons Jack Harry Couch (in uniform) and Howard Logan Couch.
John Henry Lane Couch became a Dentist (This is his registration) in NSW as did his son Jack Harry. Initially they lived in Arden St Coogee and O'Sullivan St Rose Bay but Later Victoria Road Drummoyne became home for Jack and Howard. The Dental practice was on the corner of Elizabeth and Liverpool Street in Sydney. Howard Logan married twice. His only daughter Adrienne was killed in a train accident in Sydney c.1940 aged about 14.
